Description

This course is designed to offer students an analytical, yet practical application of economic concepts and theories related to the delivery of medical care and services. The course utilizes a microeconomic approach to provide an understanding of the financing and delivery of medical services to the individual. As a background, the course provides economic perspectives ranging from the provider to the consumer, and illustrates numerous applications of economic theory. When applied to the health care industry, these theories will aid in the understanding of the complex social, economic, and public policy issues facing consumers, providers, and government regulators. The course format is intended to provide sufficient background and history of the industry so that students with various levels of experience and knowledge can gain a deeper understanding of the economic aspect of the health care industry.
