Description

Hercules. Alexander. Caesar. Cleopatra. Zeus. Juno. Achilles. Welcome to an age of heroes and sagas. Welcome to a land of empires, a realm between paradise and the underworld, a time of gods and mortals. This course will explore the world?s oldest civilizations, focusing on the Mediterranean, Mesopotamia, and beyond form the dawn of man through the fall of Rome. Using historical, religious, philosophical, and literary texts, students will seek to understand how the knowledge of the ancients, from Greece to Rome to Egypt to Persia to India and China, has continued to shape society.
