I don’t find it hard to believe that two out of every three
Microsoft employees use Google and not MSN, as I myself prefer the Google
search engine. I also don’t think
Microsoft should require its employees to use their own search engine MSN, but
I do believe there are many things that could have been done to help keep this
situation from occurring. In order to
prevent this embarrassing find, Microsoft should have been routinely conducting
this study with their employees way before a third party company such as
VisitorVille Intelligence. After seeing
the results, Microsoft should have asked its employees what differences they
saw in the search engines, what things they disliked about MSN, and what things
they liked about Google. Microsoft
should have then been constantly working with its engineers and developers to
make these changes and going back to the employees to ask for feedback and
continued suggestions. By doing this,
Microsoft would have not only empowered its employees but also allowed them to
build brand loyalty to the MSN search engine.
In turn the next time a third party survey came around, I bet the
majority of employees would have answered that they use MSN.
