From a security standpoint key advantages of WiMAX over traditional implementations are that WiMAX is now offered as a private or commercial service.  This is a large security improvement over traditional implementations because users no longer share public networks where their devices can be seen on the network by others.  Instead private connections allow users to build their own internal networks and apply their own security measures.

Businesses that could benefit from WiMAX GPS would be emergency rescue teams who need location information at quick rates over a wide geographical range.  This would allow rescue teams to be able to retrieve GPS information for specific locations in areas which previously did not have data service.  Businesses that could benefit from WiMAX GIS could be Highway Departments or Land Surveyors.  WiMAX GIS systems would give the ability to see information in areas previously not under data coverage.  Businesses that could benefit from WiMAX RFID would be any large retailer or inventory company.  The use of WiMAX RFID would provide the ability to track goods across a virtually endless range.

The current competitive advantage of WiMAX over LTE is that LTE uses a 700 MHz spectrum which is currently unused and unsupported by the majority of towers.  The advantage of WiMAX is that it is believed that many towers will be required to match the capacity of 2.5 GHz which is used by WiMAX.  This will make WiMAX more prevalent and give it the competitive advantage in being available to consumers.

Dustin,

Nice job explaining the use of GPS and GIS.  For emergency standards do we begin to put RFID tags in automobiles and homes?  For emergency purposes, and RFID tag would allow emegency personel to know the exact location of a crash.  The possibilites and uses of RFID tags is unlimited.  RFID tags give us the opportunity to have quicker response time, while also giving businesses real time data in product movement and shipments.

Tim and Dustin,
Do you think it would be beneficial to put RFID tags in humans?   Do you think people would object to this technology even though it could save their lives?  Dustin - do you think the first mover advantage has anything to do with WiMAX's current success?

Dustin, I like your evaluation of the competitive advantage of WiMAX over LTE regarding the spectrum that they operate on.  By utilizing the previously unused 700MHz spectrum, LTE seems to have snuck in under the radar of competitors.  In today's business world, recognizing this advantage could be the difference in a technology succeeding or failing.  Nice intuitive reasoning.
