WiMax advantages are:

·                  ·    speeds five time faster than typical wireless networks

·                  ·    New computers will come with WiMAX wireless cards

·                  ·    WiMAX could erases the suburban and rural blackout areas that currently have no internet capability

From a business perspective, business applications  that would benefit from WiMAX and GPS:

·         Companies can use this for their road managers

·         Companies can keep track of where employees are on the road

·         Companies can use GPS and internet to track company vehicle speed limits

·         Companies can track assets with this technology as well

WiMAX and GIS:

·                  ·     Airlines and shipping companies can plot routes

·                   ·    Hospitals can keep track of where employees are

·                   ·    On-Star uses this technology in cars to locate and help the driver

WiMAX and RFID:

·                  ·    Store inventories

·                    ·       Shipping companies

·                   ·        Manufacturing companies

Competitive advantages of WiMAX over LTE:

·                   ·    This technology will be cheaper

·                   ·    Companies are starting to put WiMAX into new laptops etc.

·                   ·    WiMAX covers a wide range

·                   ·    Offered to people in suburban and rural areas.

I think all in all WiMAX will be great for many companies and people that do not currently have internet.  This is a very fast internet solution that many people in large cities might convert over too.

Marco,
Do you think many companies chose to go with WiMAX because LTE is still in test stages?  Do you think LTE will eventually replace/phase out WiMAX?  Also, what do you think about the use of RFIDs in humans?  I believe the text mentions a club that uses RFIDs to ID customers and start customer tabs.  Do you think this this is a good use of RFIDs?

I think companies chose WiMAX due to the advantages currently. LTE technology sounds better and I could foresee them passing WiMAX in the future.  I think using RFID's in humans is the new and upcoming technology. I think it is kind of weird but its uses could be good. If you are in an accident and you have an RFID they could easily determine who you are. I think its a whole new way of thinking but I think it is definitely interesting technology.
