In this "Dumbest Moment" of business Starbucks generated an email that contained a coupon for a free iced coffee. This email was supposed to be sent by the Baristas in the Southeastern portion of the United States to their friends and family- unfortuantely we all know how fast news travel through the social media via internet and this coupon was populated all over the World. Starbucks then deicded that because of this they were no longer going to accept the coupon for a free iced coffee- anywhere. An angry customer felt that she then had the right to file a $141 million class-action law suit against Starbucks. Would it have been cheaper for Starbucks to just honor those coupons? Or maybe at least honor those coupons in the region it was assigned to? My main thoughts are: why didn't Starbucks think of this scenario before they generated a coupon through email if they didn't want it to get out to the entire world? While I do not know that this angry customer's law suit will hold up on court I think Starbucks should have deifnitely consider what would happen if they sent out an email for something "free" and possibly taken a different route in the action taken when their plan went wrong.
