The Group Directory template is used to create both the Coursemates and Groupmates portlets, depending on the context in which it is placed. That is, when the Group Directory template is used within a course context, it is called Coursemates; when it is used within a group context, it is called Groupmates.
This portlet can be placed on any page in the system, and it displays those users who are specifically associated with the context. The level of information available for each user depends on the details that have been entered by each in his or her My Info portlet. A photo of the coursemate/faculty may be displayed, depending on whether the photo was attached to their My Info portlet and whether they have elected to show or hide the image.
Tip: When access to this portlet is granted to any base role including Everyone, the names of those members are not displayed. When you create context-based roles for the current context or section, the names of those members are displayed in the portlet, similar to a course or campus group.
The registered students and instructor(s) of a course are listed on the main view of Coursemates. Each name may also be identified by the role (Student or Faculty) to which they have been assigned. Images are shown by default, and are clickable (clicking on an image pops up the user’s My Info pop-up page). If “Hide Images” is clicked, then the images will default to being hidden on each visit to this Group Directory. Click “Show Images,” and the images will default to being shown on each visit to this Group Directory. Each Group Directory will behave independently; you can have images default to being shown in one but being hidden in another.
In addition to viewing information for coursemates/faculty, you can also e-mail selected course members and view and print a course roster if you have security to do so. This same functionality is also available for Campus Groups.
For specific instructions on setting up the Coursemates and Groupmates portlets, see the Learning Management System Faculty Guide.
